I love simple, delicious salad dressings with fresh ingredients. In fact, today I decided to make a yogurt dressing with three simple ingredients. When I make a new salad recipe, I try to create a unique salad dressing without any oil. My citrus yogurt dressing goes perfectly when pairing fruit and vegetables in a salad.
Vegan yogurt makes a great creamy base for a tasty yogurt salad dressing. For this particular yogurt dressing, I planned to make a grilled peach salad, so I chose to focus on the complimentary light flavor. For that reason, I chose fresh orange juice and orange zest.
WHAT INGREDIENTS ARE NEEDED FOR YOGURT DRESSING?
As stated earlier, all you need is three simple ingredients. First, you need to choose your favorite plain, unsweetened vegan yogurt. My favorite vegan yogurt is Kite Hill, but feel free to choose your favorite brand; just make sure it's unsweetened and plain.
Next, I chose a large Florida orange in order to juice and zest it for a light orange flavor. And the only other ingredient you need is pure maple syrup.
Additionally, you may substitute dates for the maple syrup, but you will need a high-speed blender to incorporate the ingredients.

First, simply add the ingredients for the yogurt dressing to a measuring cup or bowl. Since you only need ½ an orange for the juice and the zest, you have another half of an orange to put in your salad, or eat as a snack. Then, whisk the ingredients together. Since you want the dressing cold, place it in the refrigerator, covered, until ready to serve.
WHAT KINDS OF SALADS GO WELL WITH A CITRUS YOGURT DRESSING?
Even though I made this dressing for my grilled peach salad, citrus yogurt dressing goes with any salad that contains fruit. For example, I would use yogurt dressing on an array of other salads.
(GRILLED PEACH SALAD)
(BLACKBERRY SALAD)
Despite the Blackberry Vinaigrette Recipe for this salad, yogurt dressing would also be an option, as this salad includes both grilled peaches and blackberries. The citrus flavor enhances the ingredients in the salad as well.
(STRAWBERRY SPINACH SALAD)
Strawberry spinach salad, although traditionally served with an oil-free poppyseed dressing, tastes fabulous with yogurt dressing. For instance, the creamy citrus dressing enhances the taste of the Simple Rosemary Infused Pickled Red Onions and the tart strawberries.
Another great salad, which already has a citrus flavor is Fennel Salad with Oranges. The citrus flavor with fennel is a natural combination with citrus yogurt dressing.
(FENNEL SALAD WITH ORANGES)
Furthermore, if you love this yogurt dressing as much as I do, you will discover it makes the perfect fruit dip. For example, I serve it in the center of a fruit platter for my family to dip their favorite fruits.
- Strawberries
- Peaches
- Oranges
- Pears
- Apples
- Watermelon
- Cantaloupe
- Honey Dew Melon
So, if you like it easy and simple, make a yogurt dressing the next time you want a creamy, light, oil-free dressing. You won't be disappointed.
