When I first experienced my first vegan corn dogs, it was fried and on a stick. Like a typical corn dog, a vegan corn dog contains a vegan hot dog fried inside vegan cornbread. So, I figured out a way to make a healthier corn dog.
However, the trick is to use my Vegan Oil-Free Cornbread Recipe as the base and then bake instead of fry my vegan corn dogs.
Another idea to make a healthier corn dog is to use prepared carrot dogs instead of vegan hot dogs. However, if you do not follow a whole-foods, plant-based diet, many vegan hot dogs and sausages are available to choose from.
Instead of making large corn dogs, I decided to use my mini-muffin pan to make corn dog bites.
HOW TO MAKE QUICK AND EASY VEGAN CORN DOGS
To make vegan corn dogs, I first prepared a batch of my Vegan Oil-Free Cornbread Recipe. Then, I filled each mini-muffin cup 3/4 full of cornbread batter.
WHAT INGREDIENTS ARE NEEDED FOR VEGAN OIL-FREE CORNBREAD?
- Cornmeal
- Whole wheat flour or gluten-free flour of choice
- Organic vegan sugar plus 2 Tablespoons brown sugar
- Baking powder
- Vanilla soy milk( or plant-based milk of choice)
- All-natural organic applesauce (no sugar added)
- Pure maple syrup or agave (I used maple syrup)
HOW DO I MAKE CARROT DOGS?
- Large carrots (similar sizes)
- Vegetable Broth
- Soy Sauce or Tamari for a gluten-free option
- Vegan Worchestershire Sauce (I like Annie’s)
- Hickory Liquid Smoke
- Rice Vinegar
- Maple Syrup
- Onion Powder
- Garlic Powder
The next step is just as simple; if using a carrot dog, they must be prepared and cooked beforehand and cut into 1-inch pieces.
Or, choose a vegan hot dog or sausage of choice, and cut into 1-inch pieces, but do not cook beforehand.
